The Sun Glider — Furniture · Upcycling

An upcycled mobile workstation that brings seating, storage and movement together. Made with salvaged steel, a repurposed backpack and trolley wheels, it offers a place to pause, create and rest outdoors. Finalist and exhibitor at Australia’s Next Top Designer, 2026.

01 / Context & problem

An everyday starting point

A discarded grocery trolley became the starting point for a portable place to work and rest outdoors. The design brings seating, storage and mobility into one adaptable object.

The Sun Glider — a mobile workstation made from salvaged materials.

02 / Exploration & process

Making the connection

Salvaged steel pipes, trolley wheels, an existing backpack, scrap wood and frosted acrylic were brought together through hands-on prototyping. Circular backrests echo the wheels and give the chair its distinctive character.

Movement studies and workshop assembly.

03 / Outcome & details

The proposal, resolved.

A folding workstation brings a seat, storage and mobility into one object. The finished prototype makes the salvaged frame, backpack and trolley wheels part of its identity.
